About ShokuPlan
Our Story
ShokuPlan was founded in 2023 in Fukuoka, Japan, born from a simple observation: while Japan offers incredible seasonal ingredients and a rich food culture, many residents struggle to balance traditional eating patterns with modern nutritional needs and busy schedules.
Our founder, a registered dietitian who relocated to Japan, experienced firsthand the challenge of navigating Japanese supermarkets, understanding seasonal availability, and creating meal plans that honored both evidence-based nutrition and Japanese culinary traditions. What started as personal meal planning notes evolved into a comprehensive system that now helps thousands of people eat well while living in Japan.
Today, ShokuPlan bridges the gap between timeless Japanese food wisdom and contemporary nutritional science, making healthy eating practical, sustainable, and deeply satisfying.
What Drives Us
We believe that nutrition should be accessible, practical, and culturally relevant. Too many meal planning services ignore local food availability, seasonal patterns, and regional eating habits. ShokuPlan is different because we're built specifically for life in Japan.
Every recipe we create, every meal plan we design, and every piece of guidance we offer is developed with Japanese grocery stores, convenience stores, and seasonal ingredients in mind. We understand that you might need a quick konbini lunch on busy days or want to take advantage of winter daikon when it's at its peak.
Our approach combines registered dietitian expertise with real-world practicality. We don't believe in restrictive diets or unrealistic meal plans. Instead, we focus on sustainable eating patterns that support your health goals while fitting seamlessly into your actual life.
Evidence-Based Nutrition
Every meal plan is developed and reviewed by registered dietitians who understand both Western nutritional science and traditional Japanese dietary patterns.
Built for Japan
ShokuPlan isn't a generic meal planning service adapted for Japan—it's built from the ground up for people living here. We understand the rhythm of Japanese seasons, the layout of local supermarkets, and the reality of finding time to cook between work and family commitments.
Our meal plans account for regional variations in ingredient availability. We provide guidance on shopping at Aeon, Seiyu, Life, and local markets. We offer konbini swaps for every recipe because we know that sometimes Family Mart or Lawson is your best option. We respect Japanese cooking methods and flavor profiles while ensuring nutritional balance.
This local focus extends to our dietitian consultations, workplace wellness programs, and educational content. Everything we create is designed to work within the Japanese context, not despite it.
Seasonal Approach
Our meal plans follow Japan's distinct seasons, featuring ingredients at their peak freshness and nutritional value while supporting local agriculture.
